Mobility CH / EU

The Institute of Musicology offers its students various possibilities of exchanging with different universities and institutes. Within the network of the universities of Bern, Fribourg and Neuchâtel (BeNeFri) consists the opportunity of visiting courses at the partnering institutes. In addition, there are offers for mobility throughout Switzerland and within the EU. For the latter, you will find the necessary informations and a listing of existing partnerships under the item Erasmus. Naturally, you can plan an exchange semester by yourself. However, that will require extra organizational effort. Further information about possibilities of exchanges are offered by the International Office of the University of Bern and the Rector's Conference of Swiss Universities (CRUS).

BeNeFri – Le réseau des Universités Berne Neuchâtel Fribourg

According to the BeNeFri-convention of 1993, the courses at the Institute of Musicology at the University of Bern and Fribourg are treated with equal rights. That results in the substantial expansion of educational offers for students, since provided performances are reciprocally accepted. The musicethnological lectures at the Institute for Ethnology of the University of Neuchâtel are also included in this exchange program.

If courses in Fribourg or Neuchâtel are regularly attended, students of the University of Bern will get a refund on their traveling expenses (half-fare tariff), as long as they have previously registered themselves for BeNeFri at the department of admission, matriculation and consultation of the University of Bern.

As part of the European education program Erasmus-Sokrates, students of Swiss universities are offered the chance of studying in another European country for one to two semesters and receive credit for their provided performances at their home university. Likewise, students of European partnering universities may spend one to two semesters at a Swiss university. Erasmus-Sokrates also allows for exchange of lecturers who give courses at the partnering institutes.

The Institute of Musicology at the University of Bern shares partnerships with the institutes of musicology in Austria, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, the Czech Republic and England. Preparations to expand the offer to institutes in France are currently being made.
