Lecture (VL) |
In lectures, larger subject-related contexts are presented in compact lecture form. For the preparation and follow-up by studying musical compositions and relevant secondary literature, participants are expected to devote 2-3 hours per semester week. The lectures are assigned to one or more of the focal points "Historical Musicology (HM)", "Cultural Anthropology of Music (KAM)" and "Music Theatre Studies (MTW)". |

Introductory Course (GK) |
Introductory courses deal with elementary and above all methodological questions of the subject study. These include bibliography, academic writing skills, research and working with sources, including digital musicology, as well as the introductory courses in the three focal areas of the Institute. Participants are expected to actively contribute to the course by regularly taking part in discussions and giving presentations. Apart from the GK in the BA basic studies, the GK are assigned to one or more of the focal points "Historical Musicology (HM)", "Cultural Anthropology of Music (KAM)" and "Music Theatre Studies (MTW)". |

Bachelor seminar (BS) |
In Bachelor seminars, individual questions of the subject study are dealt with in joint work by lecturers and participants. Participants are expected to actively contribute by regularly participating in the discussions and by giving presentations, as well as submitting a seminar paper (8-10 pages with 2200 characters incl. spaces) or a corresponding scientifically sound audiovisual presentation. For the preparation and wrap-up of the sessions, 6-7 hours of own work are to be done per semester week. The BS are assigned to one or more of the focal points "Historical Musicology (HM)", "Cultural Anthropology of Music (KAM)" and "Music Theatre Studies (MTW)". |

Master seminar (MS) |
In Master seminars, individual questions of the subject study are dealt with, concentrating on the deepest possible penetration of the material in joint work by lecturers and advanced participants. BA Colloquium (BK) |
The BA colloquium provides a framework for the discussion of the BA seminar papers and term papers as well as the Bachelor's theses. The event also teaches soft skills for the preparation and presentation of academic projects. Participants are expected to actively contribute by regularly participating in the discussions and by giving a presentation. Students are expected to spend 2-3 hours per semester week preparing for and following up on the sessions. |

Research Colloquium (FK) |
In the two-semester research colloquium, current research questions are addressed on the basis of the qualification theses at MA, doctorate and habilitation level in joint work by lecturers and participants. Only Master's students can receive ECTS for this event, which they must attend over two semesters with at least one compulsory lecture. Participants are expected to actively contribute by regularly participating in the discussions and by taking over own presentations. For the preparation and follow-up of the sessions, 2-3 hours of own work are required per semester week. The supervising teacher is responsible for the performance record. |

Internship with Report (DP) |
Students in the Master's Major are expected to complete an internship at an institution of their choice in the field of music/music research/music theatre - if possible during the lecture-free period and after prior consultation with a lecturer. A written documentation of 5-8 pages of 2,200 characters each must then be written about the internship and submitted to the supervising lecturer for evaluation. The scope and type of the internship depend on the respective institution, whereby the length and scheduling are to be designed in such a way that this does not result in an extension of the study period. The Institute of Musicology will assist in the arrangement of internships as far as possible, but will not assume any costs that may arise in connection with this. (for example, for travel, accommodation, etc.). |

Presentation or Performance Attendance with Commentary (VS) |
Students in the Master's Major can have the attendance of at least two academic guest lectures or a guest lecture and a musical or music-theatrical performance credited with 0.5 ECTS each. Excursion (EX) |
The excursions serve to view and analyse original sources, relevant places of musical practice, performance visits, as well as for joint field research or other purposes; they last between 3 and 6 days. Term paper (HA) |
Term paper of 20-25 pages of 2,200 characters each (incl. spaces). The topic of the paper may deal in depth with individual issues of a course attended; however, topics that were not addressed in the course attended are also possible in agreement with the lecturers. The aim is to summarise and scientifically process a concrete issue in a form that is not oriented towards the purposes of a specific course and, in reference to corresponding secondary literature, presents independent research skills and positions. |

Bachelor thesis, including subject examination (BAF) |
The Bachelor's thesis (30-40 pages of 2,200 characters including spaces) is written in the last semester of the Bachelor's degree programme Major on a freely chosen topic. At the time of registration, at least two thirds of the achievements defined in this study plan for the BA Major programme must have been completed. The topic is determined in consultation with the responsible lecturer. As part of the Bachelor's thesis, an oral subject examination of 30 minutes' duration must be completed. The grade is composed with three quarters (3/4) from the grade of the written report and one quarter (1/4) from the grade of the oral subject examination. The grade of the exam and the written report must be sufficient. |

Master's thesis, including subject examination (MAF) |
The Master's thesis (70-90 pages of 2,200 characters each including spaces) is written in the last semester of the Master's degree programme Major on a freely chosen topic. At the time of registration, at least two thirds of the achievements defined in this study plan for the MA Major programme must have been completed. The topic is determined in consultation with the responsible lecturer. As part of the Master's thesis, an oral examination of 45 minutes must be passed. The grade is composed of two thirds (2/3) of the grade of the thesis and one third (1/3) of the grade of the oral examination. The grades of the Master's subject examination and the written thesis must be sufficient. |

Module |
Three thematic modules are provided for in the BA-120 main study programme. One each is dedicated to the focus "Historical Musicology (HM)", "Cultural Anthropology of Music (KAM)" or "Music Theatre Studies (MTW)". Each module consists of one or:
